Avant-Garde Poetry Contest

Well, I'm two weeks late, and I really apologize for that. I have really not felt well lately. I couldn't really say I was sick, but I sure was bleh. Anywho, the contest is now officially closed. I will decide on a winner and post that announcement tomorrow.

After that, the winner will announce the topic for the next context and it's length, when it is closed and the new winner, etc. I think this is a really cool idea for a poetry contest, so I hope this takes off. See you tomorrow.

To be avant garde means to be innovative or experimental. I'm not sure that any of these poems fit that parameter. How do they stand up, then, as poetry?

Cacian-I like your idea of being a part of something. Your entry is a trifle choppy and rhymie, almost as if that were the most important thing about poetry. I sometimes think you are having us all on-but you would never do that, would you?

Lokasenna-I love the breezy tone your tale of evil tells, Lokasenna. You've created a most fun and evil villain.

Iain Sparrow-Your whole poem is a challenge to an unknown poet. I like your mettle and the last four lines of your poem best.

HCabret-I find yours, in the spirit of well-written poetry, to be rather a strong entry in terms of intent and style that neither subjugates nor overwhelms your ideas. Well done.

PeterL-Ve-r-r-r-y clever. I enjoyed this short but to the point entry, although I might take issue with your last line.

I'm not a very good judge of the avant-garde, but I'd be very happy to run/judge a contest on another theme - but only if people would like me to? I don't have time at the minute to compose anything, so I wouldn't feel like I was missing out by not competing.

Following a private discussion with Qimi, we've decided to carry on with the avant-garde theme for now. I'll create a new thread later today for that purpose: the 'Avant-Garde Poetry Contest 2'.

We'll have a narrative poetry contest at some point in the near future - 'narrative' poetry being poetry that tells a story of some kind, though I imagine we'll be able to interpret that as broadly as possible. I hope by the time it rocks around I'll have enough leisure time to compose something (I haven't written anywhere near enough poetry this year...).
