Lightbulb Benefits of Fasting Month of Ramadan: Fast Way to God and Peace for Society.

Peace be on you…Fasting has been the mode of spiritual training in major religions; however the original form may have been compromised in some. The third article of faith in Islam is Fasting where it is a highly developed institution. The commandments for Fasting (Holy Quran, chapter 2: v 184 +) are safe since beginning, as Allah promises safety of Holy Quran. Fasting is a form of worship. Its purpose is to gain purity, safety from evil, doing good, paying rights of God and His Creation and seeking nearness of God.

Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him, p.b.u.h.) said: God stated: I Myself is the reward of Fasting.

He (p.b.u.h.) also said: When believers Fast with self-check and optional Salaat, their sins are forgiven.

He (p.b.u.h.) used to give alms with high frequency in this month…..He said when there is chance of disturbance, a believer should say that he was Fasting. Fasting is individual purification and it also provides peace for society.

One has to practice purity in this month to end the falsehood, dishonesty, backbiting and other weakneses of character forever. A part of medical experts believes that Fasting is very beneficial to human systems. It rejuvenate the body.

The teaching of Fasting has been established by Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him), his companions, latter by reformers of various degrees and now by Promised Messiah Mahdi and his Successors. Promised Messiah said: “ Those who fast only for the sake of God and not as something which is customary, should remain engage in Hamd (glorification of God), Tasbih (SubhanAllah = Pure is Allah) and Tahleel ( La illaha illAllah = There is none worthy of worship but Allah)”

(Ref: Benefited from Ahmadiyya Khalifah's sermon)

It reduces the budget. More in tune with earnings. Time for some savings.

Fasting has always seemed a bit silly to me.

It's just a social activity like any other - at least people have something to talk about while stuffing their tummies full of sacrilegious delights after dark.

Fasting certainly communicates the faster's willingness to suffer for inclusion in the group. It communicates the importance of membership -- if people didn't want to be members, they surely wouldn't give up stuff. This is true of most taboos and religious prohibitions. Priests and nuns (supposedly, if not in reality)give up sex. Muslims and Jews forsake pork (and other foods). Hindus won't eat cows. Sioux boys would go through torturous rite-of-manhood rituals, communicating their willingess (and ability) to physically suffer to become adult Sioux warriors. When Catholics used to refuse meat on Fridays, it helped form a public identity for Catholics.

Fasting may well have other values -- but that it is a form of communication is clear.

On the contrary , the budget in this month is bigger than any other month in the whole year.
The price of foods and all goods become higher in this month
We don't have One main dish with entree as usual . Many main dishes , sweet every day _ not as usual - many invitations for relatives and friends and family .
New clothes the last day , sweets , chocolate ,etc... for guests. (Eid Alfeter ) Like Easter
paying Alzakat during this month to poor people( 2,5 % of your money )
So , this is the most expensive month for any family in the whole year

yeh we can say it's a social activity because in this wholy month people whom you don't see during the whole year visit you and it's obligatory to visit our relatives and communicate as much as we could . Besides that, people join in the mosque every night to do a special sort or prayer .
So social relationships and bonds become much stronger in this month .

I don't agree that fasting is" to suffer as poor . if you could see the tables of " even poor people " you'll change your mind .
Fasting teaches you how " to transcend Your Body ". Your main desires and needs as a human being and to control them and your behaviour .

I don't doubt that fasting has other purposes beyond communicating that one is willing to give up something for the sake of group membership. However, it clearly DOES communicate that one is willing to give up something. Other virtues are less evident to the outside observor.
