William Faulkner, The Long Hot Summer

I thought it was the novel on basis of which the movie under the same title was made. But, no, except the Ben Quick's name, mentioned only once, it had nothing to do with it.

Written in the style of a, not very interested, reporter, it depicts people in a small town. The only pages I found impressive were the description of a female who, with her timeless feminity and lack of emotions and thoughts, fits perfectly well into the rest of characters.

I suppose that the style of writing and kinds of characters, the author selected to apply in order to give the atmosphere of the time and place where life conditions were rather unconforable and tough.

If this was his intention, he did it properly.
