The Meaninglessness in Explanations Of Lifes Meaninglessness

“Life is meaningless and I want to die.”
she told me one night lying in my arms.
“The greatest minds do say it is true though
you have eternity to be dead, right now you're alive.
Right now you are alive so see what you can see
and do what you can do. Always live for your self
and attempt to understand. Be happy when your mind
is soaked in euphoria. And suffer proudly in sadness
when circumstance and biochemistry dictate it convenient.
Let the guilty Catholics suffer in their constipated souls,
don't judge them but don't believe them either when they
tell you bowel movements are bad. So life is meaningless?
Show the world the absurdity of existence, dance naked in the rain
in the Celtic tradition while I play an accompaniment in samba rhythm.
Let love fill the void between us, the void created by the fear and knowledge
of death. Let love fill the atmosphere like music fills the silence
and light the space between shadow."

    Hi E.A

I've read a few of your poems, and I always felt they were preachy in a kind of anti-preachy way. I think you start off in this vein, but i feel the poem becomes something different.

I dislike your reference to catholics as if the origins of your criticism, "they tell you bowel movements are bad", defines what catholocism is about. I'm not a catholic, but I have seen very good examples, as well as the oddness that Catholocism can produce. I feel your reference is very narrow, and in its way as constipated as some of their stuff.

What I do like is this line

Show the world the absurdity of existence, dance naked in the rain
in the Celtic tradition while I play an accompaniment in samba rhythm.

Looking at it, I think it is more upbeat, and the better for it. Does it reflect a more upbeat attitude from you? It is certainly more accepting in tone. It reminded me of If or Desiderata, though, in my opinion, it would benefit from more understatement.

    Anyway, I liked it overall.

You can get arrested for that sort of thing.
