Hello all!

My AP English class has recently read Death of a Salesman, and we were assigned a two-part project. When deciding on something unique I could do for my second half, I came up with a forum discussion, so here I am!

I’d like to discuss the idea of Willy and Linda’s relationship as Narcissist-Codependent. There are innumerable instances that seemed to have overtones of these disorders, and after looking into the actual definitions of each, I am convinced.

Narcissism is a disorder of the image-obsessed. They crave praise, importance, and if they don’t have that, they make it happen with delusions and fantasies.
Codependents enable the problem with their doormat behavior. They use denial to ignore the object of their affection’s flaws, and put his or her needs before their own.

I have a longer analysis if anyone is interested.

Does anyone else see this connection to Willy and Linda? If yes, did you see it when you were reading, and what made you feel that this was true? If no, why don’t you believe the connection exists?

Thank you for your time and ideas!
