should we be able to recognize a writer through their writing style without having to reach out for the name?
Let say if we stripped all books of their authors names would we be able to tell their less popular books from the ones already known?

it is just that

Since so many authors write in the same conventional manner maybe we would not be able to tell the difference. It just depends.
I am not against the use of the conventional writing style. It can often serve you well. But I strongly believe that every author should have his own unique style as well.

I need to read more to give an answer to that question and I could say so to almost all the questions in this webpage...however, the willing to practise my English and, of course, my vanity are stronger than myself.
Cacian, if you wrote a book, I would recognize it. I'm so certain of this. I'll bet my right testicle.

This is a good, honest response.
I agree with this, for the most part, but every once in a while we come across a writer whose style is so unique it becomes his or her signature. Joyce, for instance, Ring Lardner, and Donald Barthelme, are the ones who come to my mind (such as it is.)
Even more conventional is the "language" of American movies. Most Hollywood movies seem to have been "helmed" -- to use a favorite word of reviewers -- by the same guy. There are only a few exceptions in director's style -- you can always tell a Woody Allen movie or one by Spike Lee. European directors, especially those of the last half of the 20th c., are more recognizable through their style than American ones.
