    Ode to My Hippopotamus

    My hippopotamus was my delight.
I loved the way she played hide and go seek,
Invading my home day and through the night,
I still have dreams about her playful cheek.

Remember what you did with the penguin ?
You were most clever with your solution.
Simply counting aloud from one to ten,
Forestalled the need for an execution.

I loved when you danced; loved your simple ways.
Your pirouettes so refined and grand mal.
Your cabrioles into a plie´ received great praise -
Most assuredly the belle of the ball.

Now I pine away with a broken heart,
Counting each moment while we are apart.

    Lol! An Ode indeed!

    Minimalist Reflexion
    Words engulf worlds.

    I love my kitten
    He is so energetic.
    I named him Puppy
    Has five opposable thumbs
When he glows I feel happy

Interesting class... love Billy Collin's poetry - I shared a poem of his, last month I believe, with our small group of poets here on the Divide that was delightfully funny: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poe...-56d21ebdad746

Beautiful poem !!! I don't see it as nonsense at all.

    Loved this!

    Question
    Musing about things past
    How do dinosaurs and ants
    Relate to it?

Love question poems ! Good question...

    Wikipedia:
Ants: Ants appear in the fossil record across the globe in considerable diversity during the latest Early Cretaceous and early Late Cretaceous, suggesting an earlier origin. Ants evolved from vespoid wasp ancestors in the Cretaceous period, and diversified after the rise of flowering plants. (The first remains of flowering plants are known from 125 million years ago. They diversified extensively during the Early Cretaceous, became widespread by 120 million years ago, and replaced conifers as the dominant trees from 60 to 100 million years ago.)

Dinosaurs: They first appeared during the Triassic period, between 243 and 233.23 million years ago (mya), although the exact origin and timing of the evolution of dinosaurs is the subject of active research. They became the dominant terrestrial vertebrates after the Triassic–Jurassic extinction event 201.3 mya; their dominance continued throughout the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The fossil record shows that birds are modern feathered dinosaurs, having evolved from earlier theropods during the Late Jurassic epoch, and are the only dinosaur lineage known to have survived the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event approximately 66 mya.

There once was a Goa’uld named Susan
Who often liked to go cruisin'
So she hopped into her boyfriend's Al’Kesh,
Who suddenly became quite cheeky and fresh,
In rebuffing she oathed "you're cruisin' for a brusin'"

a boy named carter... a nonsense poem

there once was a boy called carter
who said compared to him there was no one smarter
and though he was rather young
of the disco songs he had heard he sung
    when walking his silky anteater

Enjoyed the wiki comments on ants and dinos. And the anteater.

    The anteater

    There once was an anteater
That lived his life, like you and me
To his taste a dish of ants was sweeter
    Than the finest melee,
    he used to go yippee!

    But one sad day,
(he was at the end of his tether)
    He just went away!
