Didn't make it on time this time, yet another time. I very much liked what I got to read and my fave so far wouldn't have won anyway. Really fine writings!

I knew it was Doc's. I would have voted for it, had I not joined. Congrats!

I like how you end your stories with one-liners.

I'm absolutely thrilled to have won this - you've all given me something to really be proud of. It's a very special feeling. Thank you.

When I discovered this forum three years or so ago, the first thing that caught my eye was the annual short story competition. I was in awe of the stories I read there, and if someone told me I'd win it someday, I'd tell them to get out of my office!

Thanks to everyone who has offered me constructive criticism over the last three years and helped me improve, and to everyone who has given me motivation through words of encouragement.

Thanks, also, to the forum admins, who keep this place running for us. And last but not least, to everyone who works hard to take part in this contest.

    Good health to all,
    DH

Congratulations, DocHeart! I thought yours was the strongest story, with an interesting and not entirely conventional story line, and very well told and developed. It was intriguing! Thank you for sharing it with us.

I didn't read the short stories in the contest when I first joined. Sometimes it feels overwhelming. But I did so this year, and found it to be a very rewarding experience.

Congratulations, DocHeart! Also congrats on your sportsmanship, as you voted for someone besides yourself. Such courtesy is the hallmark of a really great writer! :{)>

Thanks, everyone! The feeling still hasn't worn off.

I'll be posting the "uncut" version in the Short Story section soon (it's about twice as long as what you read here), and would love to hear your comments.

I would also like to invite the other finalists to post their stories there, especially the writer of Shanti; I'd really like to shake his / her hand (well, virtually, at least).

    Best,

    Splendid story, Doc.

I'm looking forward to reading the extended version. "The Horse sin Zapatos -uncut"

Also to the writer of the Shanti - I really liked your story. It just had a good feel about it. It's hard to describe, but I enjoyed it in the prelim's and then I enjoyed it more in the finals.

And everybody else too - great work! Keep on writing.

Doc- congratulations! It may have been a horse without shoes, but it won by a mile.
