    Trapped in the Middle of Something

    Although some say it began in Asia,
    we all came from Africa in the beginning.
    Some of us moved north and some moved east;
    some of our skin lightened, some stayed dark.
    With division came conflict,
    conflict that will never end unless
    we all come back together again,
    which is impossible.
    So the conflict will continue until
    God knows when.
    The beginning ended so long ago.
    Now we are caught in the middle of something
    of which we have no idea of where to go,
    no clue of what is happening;
    we are trapped and cannot escape.
    What will be the end
    is beyond our comprehension.
    All we can do is wear a frown
    and try to chuckle.

    Simple concept. Succinct and to the point. Perhaps you could have been more subtle but I do admire your directness. Good job

    Although I dislike laying down strictures for poetry or other genres, this has a flat literalness all the way through, no sign of the extra oomph that often distinguishes poetry from prose.

    Whether poetry or prose, considering PrinceMyshkin's comment, I liked the message. I do prefer metered verse, but when that is not presented I read the text for content. We can feel "trapped", but that will go away in time.

    I never mind these types of poems, although I know they are always "missing" something. People complain it is too preachy or didactic, but I enjoyed the simplicity of the youthful message
