Thread: Deluge

    Deluge

    Out of nowhere, without warning,
You come to ravage and devour
Like the rushing flux of high waves
Destroying the stout dunes of sand,
Disturbing the shore, the sea rocks,
The stillness of starfish, of weeds,
Of dwarf trees that give up and fall.

When afternoons are slow and quiet,
You also come breathless in haste
And as calm as the dead slumber
As though I wait and welcome you
By the window, by its shaking sill
Settling my hands, my anxious arms
As I remember, speak, and weep.
