All energy goes to
Attacking the soil
With a shovel

Until a rock is struck

Like a church bell
Spreads through
A close-knit town
These vibrations
Tightrope walk
Up the shovel
Shocking the body

Helen Keller
No sound or sight
But she could communicate
Because other people cared
Other people made effort

Those vibrations on her neck
Connecting her to the world

If I was deaf and blind
Life wouldn’t be too bad
So long as it was her laugh
Vibrating down my neck
