They started with a heavy blues influence and became more pop like with the Stevie Nicks era.

I think I covered the 'why' pretty thoroughly.

Venom? That wasn't venom. That was considered dismissiveness with some sarcasm thrown in. Venom is much less hurtful.

Her? Harmless? For twenty years, you couldn't go into a wine bar in this country without hearing bloody Rhiannon.

On top of which, she's not eccentric. She's self-absorbed and vain. Hers isn't some slightly dotty and blameless way of seeing the world. It's egotistic smugness turned into a career. She purports to be an artist, and artists are judged by their work - which in her case involves writing, singing and twirling her skirt. I'm judging her in those terms. Though, to be fair, she's a world-class skirt twirler.

Venom, dude. I don’t even like Stevie Nicks, but your diatribe comes off as venomous, pompous, and somewhat sour-grapish. I’m just saying.

Interesting Paul, the epitome of classic rock.
The Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silo meet Pink Floyd.

How about some common ground in the form of Tom Petty and a friend...

But, to me at least, funny. And it wouldn't be funny if it weren't disproportionately pompous and venomous - and actually, pretty superfluous, given the chances of it having any effect at all at this late stage. None of which stops it being, I'd contend, true.

I'll never understand the charm of Sabbath. I mean, slightly more convincing in the elfin and gossamer-winged department than Stevie Nicks, I grant you - but I can't hear what else they have going for them. And I've heard a hell of a lot of Sabbath.

    Feeling so tired....

I have to agree. I like the odd sabbath track though. The Stones song is sublime. I realise my knowledge of their stuff is somewhat thin and crispy.

I like this one - bad it aint.

But what else do you need? I think we have had this particular Sabbath conversation but at what they do they just can't be beat. I'm talking in particular about the Ozzy era Sabbath you understand, but some of the Dio stuff is OK too all the other singers with them never ever worked. Black Sabbath with Ian Gillian?

(Of course, the riff still kicks bottom hole.)

Certainly, Sabbath are held in high regards with today's makers of rock/metal noise:

(There, I've gone from peace with the Dalai Lama to rock with Black Sabbath and Metallica. Strange thing Litnet!)

I think Black Sabbath are highly addictive. Take this one for instance:

    Addictive.

How far back is classic defined as? Is it the same as cars?

or should we just open a new thread for new rock?

What about a pop one too? And blues? (But not jazz).

And acoustic versions? Or instrumentals? (But not jazz).

Our threads here could keep us going for another few months.
