    There are so many classic rock songs that are better than this but for some reason, it's the first one that came to mind. I always enjoyed this one when it came on the radio.

    the luminous grass of the prairie hides
    feet lovely and still as sleeping doves,
    porcelain bones strong enough to carry a life,
    but weighty and unmovable
    As black Dakota hills.

    For me, classic rock is this song -- there are others that are good, even great. But this is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_5kv8QeBBc

    Van Halen - 'Love Walks In'

    Aerosmith - 'Janie's Got A Gun'

    I love Heart too. Some girly classic rock!

    I don't know if Pink Floyd are classed as classic rock? :s I guess they are classic and rock. 'Comfartably Numb' is a fab song but I need more PF recommendations because I've only just started listening to them.

    Boston - 'More Than A Feeling'. I thought I didn't like it because of that bank advert put me off but it's a great song actually!

    Great choices everyone else too. Can't beat a classic rock song played full-blast!
    "...You are not wrong, who deem
    That my days have been a dream;
    Yet if hope has flown away
    In a night, or in a day,
    In a vision, or in none,
    Is it therefore the less gone?..." E. A. Poe

    Neely, you better grab hold of the reins and define what you mean by "Classic" rock.
    Veho, I'm having a difficult time placing Van Halen and later Aerosmith in the Classic category.
    Maybe it's a generational thing (grinning smilie here).

    We can all agree that disco is out...

    Haha, I realised when I posted that they weren't really classic in the sense Neely meant but I posted anyway. I think it must be a generation thing! More things must seem classic when you aren't a wrinkly.

    What about Guns N Roses? 'Sweet Child O' Mine'?

    Ha, ha sorry. People have my express permission to post what the hell they like - that's the rock and roll attitude!

    Yes I love The Kinks, brilliant. I started a post mentioning The Kinks (as well as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath) last night but it got too long winded and alas I didn't finish it. They have some great tracks.

    Yes I'm not defining classic, read "classic" as "good". Bad choice of title, my error.

    Oh, yes now we are talking with this:

    That's me biking down to play tennis on my push bike, cruising at 20 mph. Seriously though, does that song not define the word cool? That link should go next to the word in the dictionary.

    A mate and I, both going through messy relationship meltdowns, decided to get the hell out of England for a couple of weeks, and we landed on the island of Patmos in the Aegean - which is just a pointy rock sticking out of the sea, run by the monks from the monastery built around the mountain cave in which St John is purported to have written the Book of Revelations.

    The only way to get from the town on one side of the island to the beach on the other side is to hire diddy little mopeds, but the hire place only had one left. So the two of us, both well over six feet tall, got on this thing, kicked it to top speed and headed up the mountain road in our shades and faded 'Stoned Again' t-shirts.

    It was a moment of happy, youthful, unselfconscious bliss, not at all deflated by the fact that, as we revved the moped to its limit and sang Born To Be Wild at the top of our voices, we were overtaken on the upward slope by a nun riding a pushbike.

    So many fantastic classic rock tracks. I really like this one. Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower.

    Stairway to Heaven is brilliant, but here's a couple of other versions:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPOIy4Kb9M4

    by Rolf Harris

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzDEmkfb6VI

    By Far Corporation, which is a more conventional rendition. This version came out in the middle 80s, and it hit a new wave of young rock kids who weren't aware of the original.

    I've never heard of Far Corporation. I thought it was OK, very close to the original, up until about halfway when the obvious 80s influence kicked it and then it went bad. I've heard the Rolf version before! You are right though there are plenty of good rock tracks out there (and of course some very bad cheesey ones).

    Hey, I’m getting a “Content Blocked in Your Country” message on one of Paul’s Stairway selections (I’m in the U.S.). Must be a copywrite thing.

    Mmm-hmm, relationships eh?

    I call him Mister Loaf. Paradise by the Dashboard Light:

    http://youtu.be/ZK-FRac7m58

    I couldn’t take it any longer, lord I was crazy
    When the feeling came upon me like a tidal wave
    So I’m swearing to my god and on my mother’s grave
    That I will love you ‘till the end of time
    I swore I would love you ‘till the end of time

    ~~~keyboard and drums~~~
    So now I’m praying for the end of time, to hurry up and arrive
    ‘Cos if I gotta spend another minute with you, I don’t think that I can really survive
    I’ll never break my promise or forget my vow, but god only knows what I could do right now
    I’m praying for the end of time, that’s all that I can do – whoo –whoo
    Praying for the end of time, so I can end my time with you
    Uhhhh...
