My apologies for the delay...BUT we need a tiebreaker! Anyone willing to do the honors?

But there's only one with 2 votes while the rest only have one vote. Wouldn't that be the winner?
Still it's too few votes. Going forward I'd like the voters' identities to be transparent so we know who participated and who don't give a damn.
I'm dismayed that in while many Poetry posters vote for Short Story Contests, I don't see the same enthusiasm and reciprocality from the Short Story camp for our Poetry Contests. In protest I will not vote for another Short Story Contest.
"But do you really, seriously, Major Scobie," Dr. Sykes asked, "believe in hell?"
"In flames and torment?""Oh, yes, I do."
"That sort of hell wouldn't worry me," Fellowes said."Perhaps not quite that. They tell us it may be a permanent sense of loss."
"Perhaps you've never lost anything of importance," Scobie said.
It may not be a lack of enthusiasm or reciprocality as much as the relatively smaller number of people who feel they can appreciate poetry enough to vote on it. Prose is easy--everyone reads that pretty much every day they can read, but poetry takes a different mindset that many people--myself included--mostly lack. I can vote based on a piece's content, but quality of writing and style pretty much elude me where poetry is concerned, so I'd be afraid of shortchanging someone who actually put in more than I can see.
You must be the change you wish to see in the world. -- Mahatma Gandhi
I don't think people who vote are required to evaluate "a piece's content, but quality of writing and style" or have any technical knowledge of poetry. We vote for one we like, the one that speaks to us. That's all.
If it doesn't speak to you, then it's either a lack of content that appeals to you, or the style doesn't fit the content, or the writing isn't good enough to get the message across. At the end of the day it's the same thing.

I voted for you, qimissung.
Was that a vote of confidence, Jajdude? Since I can look at a poll and see how many votes a particular entrant recieved? But thank you, in any event.
And I wanted it to be a public poll but didn't get that right either. Sigh.
And so few votes, but over a hundred people have looked at this thread. And Haunted is right, in this as in all other ways (); people need only vote for the one that appeals to them.
I'm going to keep the poll open through the weekend and then do a recount. The poll will close at midnight on Sunday, February 19, 2012.
I have an idea for another contest and I'd like to get that started right away.

Hi qimissung just a question, isn't the one with the FIVE votes is the winner?.
unspoken has FIVE points so that would be the winner right?
I look forward to the next contest
it may never try
but when it does it sigh
it is just that
good
it fly
You're right Haunted but perhaps many people miss voting on these contests as they are inside personal poetry sub-forum and don't always show on the main forum page as does the short story competition. I nearly missed this one. Thanks to extended date I got a chance to vote.

I voted too. I'd like to see what the results are in 2 days.
Bumpity bump.

And the winner of the 2012 Valentine Poetry Contest is
Unspoken by Hawkman
You are the supernova at my core,
a brilliance that cannot be contained,
burning as a flame burns,
consuming thoughts
that orbit a desire too hot to touch.
You are so far away
and your motives are beyond
my understanding,
yet I gaze upon your light
and listen to your pulsar beat
as once I listened to your heart
while my ear rested calmly on your breast.
Shall we walk that dusty street,
or was it memory that led me to a place I dreamed,
and will I ever feel again
that magic of your hand in mine,
or bask in warmth transmitted
by your fingertips upon my cheek?

it may never try

it's a pleasure to read Hawk, congrats

Thank you qim, cacian and Haunted, and of course, all those who voted. Comiserations to the other entrants and thanks for their worthy entries, though it might be nice for them to have the credit they are due rather than languish in obscurity. I seem to have been the only one unmasked! And, where have they gone? Not fed into the shredder one hopes.
