I have an interesting linguistic/literary "howdy" story. I used to use the word relatively often a long time ago, and lots of times when id say it, people would respond with "good (or fine), how are you?" and I would think, oh, they must have misheard me and thought that my "howdy" was "how are you?"
and then some years ago I was reading an old western where one of the characters said "howdy" and the person responded with something like "im good."
all this time I had been thinking "howdy" was just "hello" and it turns out its at least also "how are you?"
this might be tough to move on with but....
howdy doody
I often use Howdy, it helps me with my anxiety.

I´m fine! And you?
I always thought Howdy= how do you do
No, bounty, didn´t have any robots. The nearest I come to robots is my cell phone. Or dialing a number and the call being answered by a robot.
how nice!

that's an another interesting take danik---"how do you do" seems to be another sort of greeting that combines "hello" and "how are you?"
nice try!
(which danik, might well be an American euphemism for "loser!")
re: greetings - "aloha" also means hello and goodbye.
nice shot
