A Tale of Two Cities

The beginning of the novel moved rather slowly and I was bored with it, but once
things started to pick up, I was hooked.I agree that the characters were
poorly developed compared to the distinguishable characters in Dickens' other
novels. Although 'A Tale of Two Cities' isn't traditional Dickensian
the story is beautiful. The final line spoken by Sydney Carton brought tears to my eyes.
I recommend the book, keep on reading, it picks up as you read on.

As with many classics, the beginning may be difficult, but I really enjoyed this novel. I was satisfied with it.
When ideas fail, words come in very handy.

I know what you mean about the start I had to reread a couple of times and I agree with you about the undeveloped characters to me the Darnays didn't really have personality and Sydney I found hard to sympathize with until the end.

The first time I read it, I had to take about 492570395782345 Advils. I just could not understand what was going on. Then I realized why. Dickens used pronouns exclusively.

"He said this about her to him."

    What the fu...?

My solution, as sad as it may sound, was to watch the BBC movie. That way I could visualize the people speaking. After that, reading the book was easy.

    Well... less difficult, anyway.
