    Please an opinion and help!

First of all My name is Crobe, i loved sherlcok holmes sicne a kid, but i wasnt able to read any of the book, years years later i just finished a recopilation of Sherlock and i love it even more, since i draw a lttle, i wanted ur opinion of the first sketch i did, sicne i want to draw the stories, on the book i was readin there is no detailed explanation of how he is, this is how i imagined him, also if u can help me with Watson, i have no real idea how he is, i think he is old, (somewhat old), but i dont know how old.

Thankf for listening to me, and if u have any opinion and if im wrong (im sure im wrong in something) please let me know

This is how Watson and Holmes were intended to look when the books were first published.

"Je crois que beaucoup de gens sont dans cet état d’esprit: au fond, ils ne sentent pas concernés par l’Histoire. Mais pourtant, de temps à autre, l’Histoire pose sa main sur eux." Michel Houellebecq.

You've got the shape of his head exactly right - but you'll motice from the picture posted by EM that Sherlock was famous for wearing a deerstalker hat, a flowing coat and for behaving rather flambouyantly.

Watson is probably the same age as Holmes but is a much less colourful character - dressing like a respectable doctor from Victorian times.

Holmes was set in Victorian times when certain gentlemen who enjoyed an outdoor life as well as city living spent weekends at hunting lodges - fishing for salmon perhaps or shooting deer for sport.

The hat (called a deerstalker) was rainproof and had flaps on either side that could be tied above the head out of the way or pulled down to cover the ears (providing additional warmth from the elements).

Presumably Conan Doyle dressed his hero in this fashion to make him appear a little more dashing - a touch of James Bond but set at a time when gentlemanly behaviour and the highest moral standards were more important than rugged good looks and a way with the ladies.

Watson is more of a fun figure - not particularly bright, but extremely loyal to his friend. Doyle has portrayed him this way so that Holmes can explain in great detail how he discovers every clue, or solves every case (so he explains everything to the reader at the same time).

This picture from one of many old films is probably the closest one can get to picturing how the pair were meant to look.

You will notice that Holmes always looks intelligent and wise - Watson always looks rather bewildered.

Watson is always the man who's forced to be amazed (voluntarily or not) at Holmes absolute perspicacity. Without Watson, Holmes couldn't have become famous.
