    Medieval Literature

What are your favorite medieval works and why? (except the Divine Comedy and the Canterbury Tales, those are obvious).

Beowulf is good; though it does tend to go on long unrelated tangents.

Agreed. I'd like to read the Volsungs saga some day also.

My favorite medieval work is probably the old French Vulgate Arthurian saga. It's huge and in places repetitive enough for a good drinking game, but was seldom boring (notable exception: The History of the Holy Grail, which was a snooze and a half).

True for all literature of the period. Or like those dreadful 20 page hunting scenes in Sir Gawain.

I really liked Song of Roland. It was possibly the first medieval lit that I actually enjoyed. I'm fond of the epicness, far fetched as it is... actually I think that might be why I like it.
