    Waldorf Delta

A pilgrimage to the Eastern river basin
calls me to slice the heads off Bauhinia shrubs.
The delta's warm breeze echoes whimsical notions
to add splashes of mayonnaise that will filter down
through the province to wash ashore
on the drift sands where crops flourish.

Fishermen pull in nets laden with giant catfish calling
Go! Làm cho chuyến đi salad của bạn
I laugh back, waving at mothers squatting by the bank
Our life is blessed by bamboo shoots!
Crisp slices of apple and celery are tossed
into the water when Phu Rieng Do appears.
I sup on the sticky milky sap of the plantation
till dragon millipedes breathe fire halos around my hair.

Lady Williams and Grannies bob with the current
alongside river orchids and bowlfuls of crushed walnuts.
I pluck a tune from the Trần Dynasty on a Đàn tỳ bà
and sway to the sunset, where I bow to twists of lemon.
The pepper mill on the horizon acts as a compass
but I drift further away in my Ghe Nang with its rice paper sails,
and voyage toward a full salad marination.

Your poem makes the picture so much more delish and delightful!

"But do you really, seriously, Major Scobie," Dr. Sykes asked, "believe in hell?"
    "Oh, yes, I do."
    "In flames and torment?"
"Perhaps not quite that. They tell us it may be a permanent sense of loss."
"That sort of hell wouldn't worry me," Fellowes said.
"Perhaps you've never lost anything of importance," Scobie said.

I see that, I can taste it. I'm thinking chargrilled catfish on a bed of greens...

I see what you did there. I am thinking now of other parts of the world that could become recipes and foodstuffs.....
You belong in the kitchen ( in a very feminist way, of course)

    For those who believe,
    no explanation is necessary.
    For those who do not,
    none will suffice.
