    Metamorphosis

    He remembered her from university: the honours degree and beckoning career.

    Now she peered at him through an alcoholic haze.

    “How you’ve changed,” he said, eyeing her with obvious distaste. “You’re disgusting!”

    “Changed?” She smiled wryly. “I was always a slob at heart. But you … you used to be … compassionate.”
