Smile New Literary Club - any advice?

    Hey you guys!

I know it's been a while since I've been around, but I need some literary advice.

I'm thinking of starting a Literary Club at the High School where I teach. It's an all-girl high school, with ages ranging from 11 - 18. The school is such that students are there during the day, but they hardly stay back for after-school activities. However they love field trips.
    Please - some ideas!

    Thanks so much.

    My email is lit.sunflower@yahoo.com

I would go for it; I hope it's not too late and you haven't given up the idea. I noticed your post was over a year ago. I'm surprised no one else has said anything about it.

Don't shut down conversations and interfere with actual interesting discourse just because it breaks an arbitrary rule. That would be my suggestion. In essence, let them talk, let discussions evolve as they go along. That's when things get good.

Well you could run competitions similar to those for teenage readers as advertised by the Scottish Book Trust .
