Thought crimes can vanish you if the thought police catch you, or that's what everyone believes. Is any of this real? Do they really exist, or is this just a tactic to strike fear into people's minds so that Big Brother can control almost every aspect of their lives?

I believe this is true. How can it not be when people are being vaporized and totally erased. They do exist and Big Brother does it to keep control of the people. An advantage of vaporizing is it increases the power of the government. Also it creates fear in the people whether it was their intentions or not.
