For the last few years I've continually come back to The Hobbit(just finished yet again), at least once a year for a feel good read: pure adventure and escapism. I don't think another book has ever made me happier.

Perhaps there is nothing but peace and stillness
The Hobbit is one of those for me as well, along with the Lord of the Rings. It's what I take out of the library if I can't find anything I'm looking for, just to read again. I like the Hobbit for the same reason you do... it just makes me happy, the style and the hobbit viewpoint is just so cute. The Lord of the Rings I like because of the sense of grand scale I get when reading it. Everything feels so large as life, from the Shire to Mordor, every part of the book feels highly developed. I just love it.
