    Heywood Broun

He was a newspaper writer and socialist of the first half of the twentieth century -- and a founding member of the Algonquin Round Table. And that's about all I know about him... but I read two articles by him in a hodgepodge collection, and I'd like to read some more.

Anyone know anything about this guy? or know where I can read some of his writings these days?

    Thanks,
    Abras

Cool Heywood Broun was a well-known newspaper man of the early 20th century ....

He was a particpant in the famous round table lunches with Dorothy Parker and others. He worked as a columnist, a drama critic, and a sports writer. He wasn't one of the rough-edge reporters of the 20s, but was a Harvard graduate. He like to right wrongs which he considered social injustices. Always on the side of the underdog, his column name was 'It Seems to Me". There are some collections of this column which have been printed. By checking Alibris, Biblio, and Abe you might find a copy.

He is portrayed in the movie "Mrs Parker and the Vicious Circle" which is available on dvd.

I ordered a book of his collected works -- edited by his son, Heywood Broun Hale -- from the library. My regular library system didn't have it, though, so I had to order it from one a few hundred miles away! It seems he is not the most popular writer in the world. I searched this forum... this is the only thread about him here.

It seems a pity, from what I've read so far
