What things do you do to distract you from your anger

You know, sometimes I get really angry...Sometimes I wake up that way.
Sometimes, I'm angry because I don't want to get out of bed after 5 hours sleep...

So, I turn on my Eminem tape, or some loud, obnoxious, negative rap and sing screaming all the way to my workplace; where I walk up to the door with a big smile, knock quietly, give a big smile and a cheerful good morning.

Sometimes, I'm angry when I go to bed, I like to play a nice Star Wars battle game or Grand Theft Auto; something where I can shoot at things and wreck cars...

So, what do you do to distract you from your anger...

Sometimes I get very frustrated at inanimate objects, I have a temper when things don't work the way supposed to. The pseudo psychologist in me wants to blame that on displaced anger. However, I don't think I have any healthy coping mechanism lol.

I generally don't do anger - if I get angry more than once or twice a year, then it's unusual.

However, though I am a calm, cheerful chap, if something does actually get me properly angry, then I let nothing distract me. I will simply rearrange the world around me until the source of my anger has been removed from my sphere, and that's all there is to it. I become very intractible, and you'd be surprised what a man with highly focused anger can acchieve.

In terms of anger I'm a one minute woman, I get really angry then a minute later it's gone, most of the time. I kind of wish sometimes I can hold onto it longer. The tiimes that it does last longer I usually have to go walk before I can go argue without saying something I shouldn't say.

I'd say it's always worth considering a prolonged session of vigorous masturbation. And not just in response to feelings of anger. It works for practically anything. Er. I'm told.

Metal music or videogames. If I dont turn to Devildriver or All that remains I start playing anything on my console to distract myself.

Sometimes a ver long walk helps.

I'm no help with this. I've been told the same thing as Pip... something about "bottling" it all up.

When I really blow up I tend to hit and throw things. The key is I make sure I have a safe area to do it. I've a punching bag in my basement as well as a rowing machine. Punishing myself on one of these things for an hour or so will normally help me calm down a bit. I might still be angry, but at least I'm not violent anymore.

I don't get really angry that often, but when I do, I grab my Stratocaster and wail out on it for a while. Nothing like pouring your emotions out in one of those big ol' Seventies-style self-indulgent guitar solos ...

Stay away from people and listen to some soothing music or go out for a walk if it's pleasant outside.

Anger can be used to do something creative. And although i never write utterly out of anger, i have used some of this emotion in parts of my writing. It can be, ideally, cathartic, although i can't say i achieved this result yet

I wouldnt say I have anger issues, but a anxiety issue, which in turn creates anger, so when I get angry I tend to get my guitar and write myself a song. Right now music is my biggest focus, and if it wasn't for having something to tick me off so bad, don't think I'd be doing what I'm doing. Anger can be so wonderful, but it sure is a double edged sword.

I go into the woods whenever I'm feeling any sort of negative emotions. I don't get angry that often, though - except in the spring, which is a bad time for me. I've found that shoving matches with my friends over who ate who's pizza is always good to relieve some aggression. I have sparring partners too (we used to have tae kwon do in our town, but our instructor moved away and now the students just spar each other), it's a great way for two people to beat the hell out of each other without any social repercussions.

Some things should make me angry, but they're usually just really funny. Example: like when the old lady at the video store threw a stack of porn at me and then spit on my manager because she had five dollars in late fees. That was almost the funniest thing that I have ever seen.

I kept looking, forcing myself not to blink, and then the brightness began to dissolve. My pupils shrunk to pinholes and everything came into focus and for a moment I understood. The doctors didn't know if my eyes would ever heal."

Distractions are great - it's all you can do in the short term.

If anger is a problem - it doesn't sound as though it is for you people except perhaps Lokasenna the volcano . - then it is possible to change - as it is possible to change any trait.

Whether you believe in change depends upon your worldview I suppose, and your personal view about the mind. Permanent change can't be achieved just by addressing the day to day mind and reacting to it. It needs convincing. This sometimes happens when someone sees the effects of anger, which makes such an impression on their mind that they deternmine not to be swept away by it again. Otherwise it's a slowly slowly process.

Perhaps it's not a problem for people here, but it is the most destructive emotion and results in murder sometimes. It's worth tempering.

I don't usually get angry but when I do, I find the placing blame on loved ones works pretty well. . . . . Seriously, I usually brood, then either go for a run or find some physical project to do. But mostly, I don't get angry. I usually just figure out a way for the thing to be my fault, then I try to solve it.
