    apples and headaches.

I was wondering if you get headaches when you eat apples.
I made the mistake of eating an apple today and got the worst headache i've had in a long time.

I've noticed that i only get them when i eat the shiny apples. The ones that look quite waxy ( which is about 99% of all apples that exist )

The only apples i can eat and not get a headache afterwards are these

    golden apples.

I really don't understand it. I've done some research and there is absolutely nothing on the subject - except for one other person who reported to have it too. The headaches aren't just bad, they're absolutely awful, and very sharp.

    Anyone else get this?

maybe you're sensitive to pesticide residue. apples are one of the Dirty Dozen after all. and some of these things can really mess with you.

well, apples DO have a higher concentration than any other fruit and very thin skin.
what about malic acid sensitivity or an allergy?

is it all apples or just a certain kind?

most apples. red and green ones, but they're worse when they are the shiny/waxy kind - especially the green.

the ones that aren't shiny - and are yellow, the golden ones, they're fine

well, i found out that a lot of stores spray their apples with msg but it could also be a pigment based sensitivity.

Actually Limajean, I hear that the apples in my area are gassed to allow them to last up to six months. It may be an item in the gass used, that triggering of the headaches.

ok. I'm going to sleep now! :yamwb: But if you have really bad migranes be careful of aspartame, it always triggers the worst migranes for me, and i'm talking about almost seizing and fainting.

it's hard to find anything on them because it seems really odd - and it is i guess. it's really frustrating though.

Have you tried peeling the apples, limajean? If you are sensitive to something that has been sprayed onto the fruit, insecticide or preservative, removing the peel would also remove the residues. If you still et the headaches, then it could well be a sensitivity to malic acid. Can you drink apple juice?

I think it's a birch tree pollen allergy.

"OAS sufferers may have any of a number of allergic reactions that usually occur very rapidly, within minutes of eating a trigger food.

"Birch pollen: almonds, apples, apricots, avocados, bananas,[5] carrots, celery, cherries, chicory,[6] coriander, fennel, fig,[7] hazelnuts, kiwifruit, nectarines, parsley, parsnips, peaches, pears, peppers, plums, potatoes, prunes, soy, strawberries, wheat; Potential: walnuts

However, it should be noted that reaction to one or more foods in any given category does not necessarily mean a person is allergic to all foods in that group."

Most of the wax and junk on apples is alright.

I don't get headaches from eating apples, but I do happen to accrue some wonderful toothaches.
