YES!!! and the devil! sorry seriously on the first, I just had to torture through that book recently. It was a great way to put myself to sleep. although I see A LOT of connections to modern society... Orwell himself perdicted that society would become that.

Sorry, but there are some serious fallacies going on here.
While "the media" is blamed for lots of things, it's only one tool for sending and receiving information. I'd say more people use the internet than organised media now, so the connection to 1984 is tenuous at best. Also, note that despite the thoughts of some CT nutcases, the mass media are privately-owned and not driven by government propaganda.
Steph - please read some other threads; 1984 is not and was never meant as a predictive novel.
