The Teachings of Don Juan, Carlos Castaneda

The book is written as a scientific research of the influence of some Mexican cactuses upon the human psyche. The first and the largest part of the book consists of dialogues between the author, who is one of the main characters in the book, and his teacher, guru, Spanish «brujo», don Juan and descriptions of the experiences caused by taking of these plants. The second part is an expert's analysis of the previously described experiences.

    Quotations:

    - Look for miracles around you and watch them. You could get tired watching your own self, so due to this tiredness you might get insensible for everything else.
    - Mescalito – a unique power, protector, teacher. There are no definite steps in getting to know Mescalito, nobody is capable of teaching anybody else about Mescalito apart from one own self. Thanks to this, he is a unique force: not the same for everybody.
    - Mescalito takes you out of yourself to teach you, while an ally gives you power.
    - Datulla as an ally – what is not good with it is that people, at the end, become slaves of Datulla for the sake of the power it gives them.
    - It took me three years to understand, or better to say, to discover that what cactus Lophophora Williamsii contained in it, whatever it might be, had nothing to do with me in order to exist as a being, it existed on its own, there, outside in the freedom.
    - It was a very complex system of beliefs in which searching was an experience leading to delight.

Love doesn't make the world go round,
love is what makes the ride worthwhile.
