Hello everyone, I had this book as a kid that was the compilation of some short stories and the opening chapters from a whole bunch of different books.

I am trying to remember the name of one of these stories. I apologize if I butcher the details since it has been a very long time since I've read it (I believe I was in the 6th grade). It involved two children in a futuristic setting. Only one of them could write, because apparently writing and reading were not important or used any more.

One of the boys had a computer that could recite stories, but the boy was complaining about how the computer was an older model. The boys tried to get the computer to work, but it was not acting right.

In anger one of the boys hit the computer, and suddenly the computer started to tell a story in a very different voice. It started to talk about an old society ages ago....

This is about where the story/chapter ended. I don't remember the exact way it ended either; I suppose I'm not being much of a help . Anyhow, I hope this rings a bell, let me know if you have any suggestions.
