    Question HOMEWORK HELP: Ernest Hemingway

Hello there! A friend asked me to help him with his homework. It's on A Clean, Well-Lighted Place by Ernest Hemingway. He emailed it to me, but there were some typos. The conversation between the two waiters wasn't very clear; there were times where I'm not sure which of the two was talking. Also, I couldn't picture out clearly the setting.

Now, I'd like to ask your views on the short story. An exhaustive discussion is very much appreciated.

P.S. What was the purpose of the soldier and the girl in the story? Could it be an allegory of Hemingway's experiences in the war or something?
