    Pink Ice by RG57

    Pink Ice

Stained with life that lives no more
Disfigured forms scar the earth’s floor
None will be seen till the spring thaw
Showing evidence of another bloody war

    Snow stained carnage yet again
    Showing man’s lust for pain
And to what is the gain?
    None! It’s just man’s game

Ice so lightly stained in pink
    Tainted water unfit to drink
And snow covered in life’s ink
Even more into depravity we sink

Blanket of winter covers our crime
But it is hidden for a short time
    Figures fixed in mocking mime
    Becoming another bloodstained shrine

Death to them is no longer a mystery
    Their marble faces now history
    Once they belonged to humanity
    Taken by cold heartless insanity

They came from the warming womb
Fed by breast and loving spoon
Looked upon by sun and moon
Only to be put in an early tomb

    Frozen wastes hiding our shame
Only to be exposed again and again
We forget that each had a name
And to life each had their claim

When the long winters had its day
And flowers of spring make their way
No matter what we do or say
Another season will join the bloody fray

This world is hell, not paradise
Man’s endless bloodlust will not suffice
Crawling the world as detestable lice
Turning another winter into pink ice
Here were we wretched creatures of men making for each other's throats, and outraging the good earth which God had made so fair a habitation [Prester John - John Buchan].

metaphoric pink ice I enjoyed the read from beginning to end. The cycle will always repeat itself never coming to an end, we are born to live and die.

Pleased you like it, I got the idea from some WWII photos of dead soldiers on the Russian 1943/44. It was here I saw irony of it all, as I have similar picures from other battlefronts.
