    anecdotes

i was thinking about tolstoy the other day - how some woman came to his place and had a yen for chicken. so he had one trussed and placed live on her plate; he then invited her to kill and prepare it herself. blech! needless to say, she refused, and the purportedly vegetarian tolstoy was thrilled, both at the chicken's assured life and the exposure of her hypocrisy.
    bon!

what are some tales you've heard about different authors that tickled your funny bone?
    shh!!!
the air and water have been here a long time, and they are telling stories.

An interviewer once asked William Faulkner, "Some people say they can't understand your writing, even after they read it two or three times. What approach would you suggest for them?"

Faulkner responded, "Read it four times."

They tell that once Bernard Shaw was accosted by a beautiful dim witted actress who on being introduced gushed, wouldn't it be wonderful if we had children with my body and your mind, just think of what they could accomplish!
Shaw replied, yes, but what if they had my body and your mind?

    Mean, but funny.

Am not very sure who it was, but it was certainly a composer. I think that it was Sibelius?

Anyway, a friend of his told him that a friend of his has a collection of all kinds of torture machines through the ages.
S asked if there was a piano also in the collection.
    The friend answered negatively.
"Ah, that's clear now that he hasn't learnt music in his childhood"
