    What Else Can Be?

    What Else Can Be?

    What else can be?
As I look around me and see this debris
    these shattered memories
    broken lives
    all that are left behind.

    Homes no longer
    only wooden structures
    planks and tarnished glass.

    What else can be?
    When nothing remains
but the tears and the grief
and you strive for a life beyond
    the flood gates.

But this is the only place you
    have ever known
    yet now it is ravished
    turned upside down.

    What else can be?
    Feeling stripped down
to my own nuts and bolts
    unable to move
as the horror washes over me

Just once I wished for an escape
but it came just a moment too late
now that I have been uprooted and displaced

    What else can be?
The end so near to me
is there a place to start again
    to rebuild from here

    what else can be?

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before. ~ Edgar Allan Poe

Wow. this is extremely powerful. it makes me want to get "what else can be?" tattooed on my body, to remind myself of this poem. Thank you for posting. Hope all is well
    "real
    loneliness
    is not
    necessarily
    limited to
    when
    you are
    alone

Unfortunately, this is the mantra of too many who have seen there lives and those of their loved ones destroyed and betrayed.
There being no cup big enough to hold the bitterness and the despair.
