It is one of the major works of Plato, written approximately in the same period as the Republic and the Symposium, and last of the "Sokratic dialogues" (so-called because they probably portray something of the real Sokrates, ending with the Apology). In the usual dialogue form, the discussions center on (1) the immortality of the soul (in the Greek, not Christian sense) no doubt suggested by the death of Sokrates, and (2) introduce Plato's theory of the Forms.
Phaedo is rather short. Was it in a collection?
