I've found that the kids at my school like to read about both major issues in the "real" news, as well as some of the more controversial things that go on in the school. For example, in the months before school was out, the newspaper ran a couple of articles regarding the upcoming US presidential election. We have to wear uniforms at my school, so the newspaper has also ran articles in the opinion columns about wearing uniforms, the styles, et cetera. You may also want to talk about the music that everyone listens to, or should listen to. Anything regarding popular culture may catch your readers' eyes. You want to cater to a wide variety of people--drawing everyone in-- so be sure that your paper at least looks fun, even if you are dealing with serious issues.

    Good luck
