It's not certain that fairies don't exist...

    Hi everyone,

I would be really grateful for some help. I am currently translating Spanish fairy tales into English, and have come across the phrase 'it's not certain that fairies don't exist.'

I have a feeling that the line appears somewhere in Peter Pan! Am I correct? If so, does anyone happen to know which Chapter?!

Thank you lots for all your help.

    Hello sarahlucy,

no, that exact phrase "it's not certain that fairies don't exist" is not in Peter Pan: http://www.online-literature.com/barrie/peterpan/ , nor in Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens http://www.online-literature.com/bar...ngton-gardens/

Just to clarify, you say you are translating Spanish author's fairy tales to English? Barrrie's fellow countryman Andrew Lang http://www.online-literature.com/andrew_lang/ researched and wrote extensively on the Fairy Tale genre.

There is also that great Cottingley fairy hoax that comes to mind, http://www.cottingleyconnect.org.uk/fairies.htm , maybe somebody connected to it said/wrote "it's not certain that fairies don't exist." , like, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle http://www.siracd.com/life_spirit.shtml#fairies in one of his Strand articles about the subject
