Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't have a membership to enotes so I can only read the first part/introduction. my problem is that my teacher is very strict and has emphasized that our essays must be on the main theme of our books. I am having a hard time deciding what the main theme is as there are a couple themes in Jane Eyre. I really need to get a good grade on this assignment so any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks that website was really helpful, but I was wondering if I could get any help as to what you all thought the main theme of the book is, there are a couple to choose from and I don't know which one is the best main theme. (sorry I'm sounding really pick, this teacher is just really strict!)

I also I like romance, and thought I might be able to do my paper on Jane’s quest to be loved, though I don't know if that is a theme? throughout the novel Jane does seem to want to be loved, and not just in marriage but friendship also, or that is what I thought as I was reading the book. do you think that could work as a theme, or should I do something else?
As I have been working on this essay I have found it a lot harder then I initially thought it would be. I was wondering if you had an idea's to help me out, I would really appreciate it.

The main theme of Jane Eyre is the strugle of life and true love.
It is also her strugle betwen love and living without sin.
You all have great ideas but those are not themes. The main theme of the story is more like no matter how bad your start is you can always make your ending better.
