    Love and Relationships # 7

    A NEW HORIZON

    That first date, The Anticipation
    Butterflies in the stomach
Would she come, would she stand me up?
Then the elation when I see her
    Excitement tinged with fear
    Nervous laughter punctuates nervous silences
    Then relaxed conversation
    The touch of her hand
    Exchanged knowing glances
    The end of the evening
A slow walk home, holding hands
At her door the first kiss
    Then goodnight

    Before our second date
    The empty ache of longing
    Stomach in knots, head spinning
    The doubts and insecurities
    Analyzing every second
    Of our first meeting
    Looking for signs, reassurances
Then the day came and all was well again
At a family function, her sisters wedding
    Stolen kisses And Knowing looks

    Then as the days past
    More doubts, more insecurities
Should I say I love her Is it too soon
Does she feel the same as I?
Am I rushing it Will I scare her off
    Then when we meet again
    All my fears melt away
    And on that first morning
    We woke together
    The touch of her hand
    The warmth of her smile
I thought I would never doubt again
    Then came the next day
When we weren’t due to meet up

    CRUEL WORLD

My tears ran like autumn rain
    When cupids love was slain
In my heart there was only pain
I turn my back upon the world

    My world was shattered
When I lost all that mattered
    And my dreams were scattered
I turn my back upon the world

    My heart has been broken
Her love for me was only token
    All her promises now forsaken
I turn my back upon the world

The loss of my hearts desire
Cold embers where once was fire
To love again I can only aspire
I turn my back upon the world

But with head high I went forward
    Feeling not a little awkward
And I found my just reward
When I went again into the world

Though my love ended in tears
It’s never as dark as it appears
I’ve put aside my darkest Fears
And I must go again out into the world

Now back from the brink of madness
With Only distant memories of Sadness
My heart no resounds in gladness
Now I’m back again into the world

    CHOICE

She sat on an eternal shore, silent
Calm unexpressive face, still like granite
    Contemplating her destiny, knowing
The path she chooses she must take alone
Upon the expected cross roads she came
It arrived suddenly, but then not so
The long awaited, long dreamed of moment
Choices when made can extend far beyond
Like ripples in the water from a stone
Inside herself she must look for the answer
A deep breath, a sigh and she plants her foot
Upon the chosen trail to who knows where
With confidence she sets off on her way
Has she made the right choice who can say?

    REFRESHED

    Laughter rings now
    In the once empty caverns
    Of my heart
    Sweet wine now
    Replaces the bitter brew
    Which once coursed
    Through narrow streams
My senses once dulled by time
    Are now sharp, concise
    Vision like an eagle soaring
    Able to hear the beat
    Of a humming birds wings
    Nostrils filled with exotic scent
    Heady and cloying
    Exquisite tastes tantalize
    An unsophisticated palate
    And the reason
    For my transformation
    My metamorphosis
    Is an angel
    Earthbound
Who has energized an old man
    Invigorated my senses
    She has re-awakened me
    Stirred my soul
    But she will never know
    Must never know
    How she has affected me
I will view her from a distance
    And exchange polite greetings
A warm smile, A familiar nod
I will keep my own council
    And I will feel contentment
    My love unrequited

IF WE HAD MET AT A DIFFERENT TIME

If we had met at a different time
I would have asked out Charlie
    Charlie the beautiful young brunette
Whose voice alone was sufficient to arouse
    Hazel eyes that could mesmerize
And her heady perfume was hypnotic
Just to look at her curves stirred my loins
    Those perfectly round buttocks
    The swing of her hips
And the movement of her breasts
    Charlie the beautiful young brunette
    With the impossibly long legs
    That could have encircled me
    In our passionate embrace
She could so easily have been mine
    But I stepped away
And I distanced myself from her beauty
Because she was half my age
And because I was not free
    I did the right thing
But I still think of what might have been

    THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT A CELLIST

    There’s something about a cellist
    That really turns me on
    A female cellist obviously
In a low cut evening dress
    Of emerald green velvet
    The great polished instrument
Between her long black stockined legs
    Her long brunette hair
    Dancing across her naked shoulders
    Brushing her alabaster skin
In frantic rhythm to her playing
    Sat in the lavish surroundings
    Of a grand hotel lobby
A pale willowy figure called Deidre
Purposefully thrashing out a piece by Elgar
Or music to slash your wrists by
    To a disinterested audience
Ok its not cellists that turns me on
    But there’s something about Deidre
    That definitely does
    When she’s playing the cello

    THANK GOD FOR F RU

She had been on my mind
A great deal of late it seems
    Images and moments of her
    Vividly filling my dreams

    Though thirty years had passed
All too quickly as a matter of fact
I decided I would Google her
And that’s not a euphemistic sexual act
Though that is a delicious thought
But a global search on internet
Producing the usual multitude of hits
Most of them spurious you can bet
Amongst the list before me I found
A teacher very well respect they say
A dancer and a musician but not her
But apparently I could buy her on eBay

So I thought I might just Yell
    Not at anyone necessarily
    But search through the online
    Comprehensive yellow pages directories
    However it proved fruitless
As I didn’t know what town she was in
Or if her name had changed
It was difficult even to begin

Then I had a brain wave
And I went to Friends Reunited
There at least I may have a chance
After login in I actually got exited

    First I Checked work places,
We worked together for a while
But no entry of her name
Not to worry the site is versatile

    Then I checked the schools
All the schools within 20 miles
But no entry of her name
Not to worry the site is versatile

    I checked the Armed forces,
The Duke of Edinburgh award scheme
    College and university
    And then clubs and teams

That only left streets to check
I knew where she lived long ago
    30 years ago at least
But the name and number, no
I could have driven straight to it
But it was 100 miles away
    It was so frustrating
And I almost gave up that day

    Then I suddenly realized
I could find the street on Multimap
I traced the route I would have taken
And I found her street on Multimap

So quickly I entered the street name
    On Friends Reunited
And lo and behold there was her name
    And I got really exited

Quickly I sent her a message
I hope it’s not treated as spam
    Or even worse than that
She doesn’t remember who I am

Then every day I check my mail
Hoping for a reply from her
And look on the site at my inbox
And every day there is nothing there

Weeks had gone by and nothing came
Then a message from her so sweet
She did remember who I was
And she wants us to meet

I’m a bit nervous and apprehensive
    And worried about the event
    Anyway nothing ventured, nothing gained
I’ll let you know how it went

    IMAGINE

I imagine the scent of you
    Because you are far away
I imagine your hand in mine
Because you are out of reach
I imagine you in my arms
    Because you’re no longer there
    I imagine your sweet smile
Because now you look at me with scorn
    I imagine your lovely voice
Because now you speak only bitter words
I imagine that you love me
Because your love for me is past
I imagine myself in your heart
Because you no longer love me

    LOVE OF HER LIFE

    Young and beautiful
She looked at the life ahead
    With hope and optimism
But a life was planned for her instead
    A loveless marriage
    With a distant stranger
    Arranged by her family
She decided was not for her

    She gave her heart
To the love of her life

    She listened to her heart
    And not her fathers voice
    She simply fell in love
With a man of her choice

She wanted too make a life
With the love of her life

    The consequence of this love
    So precious to her
    Was shame on her family
    And death for the dishonour

    She risked her life
For the love of her life

    Her cries for help
    Went sadly unheeded
    The cruellest punishments
    For the love she needed

    She gave her life
For the love of her life
Her father wanted to arrange her life
And cursed the love of her life
    Her father took her life
Because of the love of her life
She wanted to live her life
With the love of her life
    Make her safe in paradise
God protect her in the afterlife

    TRIANGLES

It’s so good to be loved
    To be essential to someone
To be the breath of their life
    The beat in their heart
    The fire in their blood
    Seeing love in their eyes
    Knowing you are the one
    Being in their every thought
It’s so good to be loved
    Except when you love another

    NATURE’S CHILD

    She was nature’s child
    The most special one
    Her smile as warm
    As the summer sun
    Yet Fragile and delicate
    Like an early spring bloom
    Bright as shaft of sunlight
    Illuminating the gloom
    Spectacular and exiting
    As the days first dawning
    Yet simple and refreshing
    As a clear winter morning
    Tempestuous like
    An autumn gale blowing wild
    The most special one
    She was nature’s child

    DO I LOVE YOU?

    Do I love you?
    How could I not
    When I touch you
    My heart beats as yours
    You are the one
    My other self
    My virtual twin
    When I breathe out
    You breathe in
You are the other half of me
    That makes me whole
    We fit each other
    Like machine cut pieces
    In a puzzle of love
    When I hold you
The edges of our forms blur
    And we are one being
    We are symbiotic
    Hearts beating as one
    Thinking each others thoughts
    Speaking each others words
    Sharing the same shadow
    When I hold your hand
    Our fingers merge
    And become indistinguishable
    We are conjoined
    Do I love you?
    You know I do
    I always have
    And always will
What else can a soul mate do?

I love your poetry. "Choice" and "Do I love you" the best out of this lot.

I agree with xcape, "Choice" and "Do I love you" are very good, and I especially liked "Do I love you". It has a good rhythm to it with well choosen words in well choosen spots. If I were voting which to make it's own thread on this forum, I'd definetly choose "Do I love you". I especially liked the line
    We fit each other
    Like machine cut pieces
I'd also say there is a sense of dichotomy to the piece that sort of goes in out of being two things and then becoming one thing which I think works well with the subject matter. Very nice.
