When he was writing a serious work and not an "entertainment"(as he called it), Graham Greene was a great great writer.

In particular, I have found thet the Quiet American (which is my favorite Greene novel) has a lot of relevance to the present international situation.

Considering the orgins of neo-conservatism were disaffected Democrats who felt their party wasn't strong enough on fighting communism, the Alden Pyle character is the perfect critique of the new-con mindset with his sense of his own infallibility and almost religous zeal and willingness to commit attrocities.

Any other opinions?
