Then we sat on the edge of the earth, with our feet dangling over the side, and marvelled that we had found each other.

...Also baby duck hat would be good for parties.
*gasps in dismay, almost choking on gum*
ewwwww??? oh my goodness
perhaps it is my canadian-ness that pushes me to defend one of our most prominent contemporary bands, but really.....
i just like them. is that demerit points for me?

ugh... If I have to listen to "How you remind me" once more at work, I'm going postal.

Also, they're on the same record label that Slipknot, Mudvayne, Spineshenk, Coal Chamber, ect.. call home (Roadrunner Records). It's misleading!!! They're the only act on the label that isn't metal. I mean, come on, they're not even rock. They're a pop band. They're like any other boy/girl band exept they play guitars. They blow hard. Eff Nickleback.
That's all I have to say about that!

I didnt realize that record labels are required to maintain loyalty only to one genre of music. I do learn something new every day.
i apologize on behalf of all nickleback fans that you have a crappy radio station that plays the hell out of songs, but do try and place the blame where it belongs: with the DJ's, not the musicians. Here we don't hear "How you remind me" hardly ever, as we have access to the newer albums of all genres and bands. Lucky lucky us!

Kik is like our favorite damned disease here, , He is cool, but is so different from us to, he reminds us of who we really are, he has figured us out and makes us learn the hard way,
Guess how many NB references are in that statment.
Hey kik, no hard feelings.

Sorry, I have to step in here and make a clarification. DJs do not program music and they haven't for years. Music on the radio, virtually all music played on the radio in North America, is controlled by a company called Clear Channel. They decide what music you listen to, not DJs, not your local radio station, and if you are listening to the radio, not even you. Which is why we are down to about seven or eight basic radio formats (one hip/hop, one country, one ez listening, one "classic rock", etc.) and no matter where you go in North America, it all sounds the same. The difference between radio in the 'States and radio in Canada is a provision in Canadian law, usually referred to as CanCon, which requires stations to include a certain percentage of music made by Canadians (Canadian Content) each day, but other than that, it's business as usual for Clear Channel.Originally posted by verybaddmom

It's big business, lots of money, the major corporations get rich while creative artists go unheard and the public in general loses out.
Rant over. Again, sorry for the interruption.

good info ihrocks, i knew not.
then we shall blame the faceless corporations for kik's angst.
however, kik is in the UK i believe, does that change anything?

New artists are discovered and their music is played, you just need to listen to the university channels, they have some very unique stuff.

Gotta stand behind kik on the Nickelback thing. Sorry. Liked their first album a lot, then they went the way of Creed and the Goo Goo Dolls (i.e. one awesome rock CD, then a ballad hits on MTV and they remake it over and over for the rest of their career).
iTunes is my haven for underground-ish stuff. It's the best I can get, but the bands on there always seem to break into the mainstream like three months after Radio IO or Soma FM or 3WK start playing them. I've discovered some of my favorite bands on there, though. Clearlake, Plus Minus, Modest Mouse, Cooper Temple Clause, Air, Muse -- great stuff.
