Enjoyed The last 3-lines summed the poem up for me:
"Of the people still clear echoed the soul of the song,
And to whom from without appeared, in life, the great godhead,
Whom the bard of these days scarcely can feel in his breast."

"Torn is each virtue from its earthly throne" - Francesco Petrarca; Sonnet VII. La gola e 'l sonno e l' oziose piume. / To a Friend, Encouraging Him to Pursue Poetry.... https://www.poetrycat.com/francesco-petrarca/sonnet-vii

Glad for the explanation on who Rushkin was... saved googling. An intense poem about the intense work women do on a daily basis... God bless.

Hopefully not a duplicate: (nope, looks good, it's my last "x" poem though ... have to REALLY dig)

Wonderful story by Herr von Kleist A version of "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" is a favorite of mine to sing when I'm in the choir.

Joyce's gloomy poem is a gem.
