    Three Cheers For....

I'd like to take a moment and acknowledge my friend Idril.

It's been over a year now that we have been in almost daily contact, and it's amazing to me how close people can become on the infamous web. My friends outside of the forum experience have absolutely no clue how people can become "true" friends from a *cough* chat-room. They will ask me if I am sure she's not a 600 lb. man posing as lovely Idril.

These friendships run the full spectrum of emotion, and the direct thought to screen form of communication is perhaps even a more PURE form of communication then physical presence.

Anyway, please help me in celebrating Idril, I know she makes a great contribution to this forum, and spreads her wisdom, humor and love of literature and music around to most everyone here. Idril knows how much of a sap I am, let's show her that I'm not alone in sappiness, please.

and if you have your own special friendship you'd like to acknowledge please do so here.

    Thanks, Idril...love you, sistah!

Hooray for Idril! She's the best Song Title Game player ever! Plus, she has great taste in music.

Even if she is actually a 600 lb man, at least she (he) has great taste in women to pose as.

Hooray for Riesa and Idril's friendship. I have formed several friendships here as well. Let's just say they are all dear to me.

Add my two cents in--Idril pays me the great compliment of noticing me from time to time and North Dakota is the richer for her being there.

great tribute, riesa, i couldn't agree more with the person you selected.

idril, let me start by saying that i'm the proud owner of four Iron & Wine albums. many nights i've stood around with friends with the stereo turned up nice and loud dazzled by songs like Fading From the Winter, The Rhythm & The Sea, Love & Some Verses, Sodom, South Georgia, Upward Over The Mountain, the list goes on and on. The lyrics and simplicity of sound, ahh! it didn't take much convincing for friends to agree that Iron & Wine is simply divine. so, to you from me, accept this little bow of appreciation as the source of that musical experience that will carry with me for a long time to come. thanks.

Yeah! (I know, I've gleaned inspiration from her knowledge of Tolkien, too.)
"The time has come," the Walrus said,
    "To talk of many things:
    Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
    Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
    And whether pigs have wings."

Goodness, Riesa! You're making me blush. You're all making me blush. In some ways, I can't believe it's been a year and in other ways, it seems like we've "known" each other for years. And to think it all started because I was whining that I never get any IMs. Little did I know it would be the beginning of a beautiful friendship, although it was obvious early on we shared a very odd and inappropriate sense of humor.

And you know, complimenting my musical taste and my Tolkien knowledge are two sure fire ways to earn some serious points.

...and no, I'm not a 600 pound man, at least not the last time I looked.

...and Riesa, you're such a sap.

What i can surely say about Idril is that she has a good taste in films and also she is a Tolkien fan which is always pleasant to hear And of course i've noticed which books she reads (in the "what are you reading" thread) and she has given me (although she doesn't know) some ideas (i have bought the "Tin drum", for instance ).

That is so cool! That pleases me a great deal because Tin Drum is a very worthwhile book. I'll be curious to hear what you think of it.
