    Rhyming Couplets

Do you love rhyming as much as I do? Then please play this game with me:
Finish the couplet that the person above you left unfinished. After that start a new couplet. In between you may put as many couplets as you like. You can change the metre, if you want.

    I'll start:

In the middle of the night
when the stars were shining bright,
    Countess Olga lay in bed
    thinking of her newly-wed
son who was that very night ...

    next poster:
    honeymooning with his bride.
She was wondering if that bride
    had sufficient blood inside
to fill her darling sonny's tummy...

    next poster:
    Thus pondered Count Dracula's mommy.
What Mommy did not know, however ...

    Now you.

[PS: b0207] hope this is what you had in mind... never done a couplet before].

    ...was that darling sonny's bride
was the Slayer of the night
her name was Buffy; yes t'is true
and her job profile was to do
    what Mommy Dracula most feared
    to exterminate her family

the moon shone bright and clear
    and the happy couple steered
their way towards the marital bed
    smiling in anticipation...

    over to next person...

Oh, well, actually your first line should have rhymed with "however", but never mind. I'd never hit upon Buffy!

Let's go on from your last line.

The Count, he had great expectations.
Oh, how sweet her blood would taste ...

[got it, I think, but if not ... ]

But sadly in the dear Count's haste
his little bride did see his fangs

    Got it!

She thought that with some well-aimed bangs
of a hammer and a wooden cross
he would be meekly at a loss
for words and for a hearty bite ...

    Intent to spoil his appetite,
She doused herself in garlic sauce
    Voices mysterious far and near,
Sound of the wind and sound of the sea,
Are calling and whispering in my ear,
    Whifflingpin! Why stayest thou here?

Yes, I was waiting for the garlic to come in!

    and with supernatural force
into his heart the cross she sunk.

the man-beast howled and went 'kerplunk'
then rising up he dragged himself

    I like 'kerplunk'!

    to the little medicine shelf
where quite high on top there sat
in a bottle round and fat
    Dr Bullox' healing lotion,
    that fantastic magic potion
    advertising on the label,
"This here juice is really able
    to heal anything you like,
    except being a bloody psych-
    opath or an irksome nerd

    or a really vexing turd."
But as the monster's strength decreased
    the girl found Dracula deceased
as the first rays of the sun
showed the feat that she had done.
    And exhausted, with a scream,

Oh please, come on, I know there are lots of talented rhymers on the forum ...

Our dearest Buffy, sank into a dream
A dream of wonders filled with splendours
A gleaming Knight who thus surrenders
His fabulous body which is fangless
    and furthermore...

Patience? So far you and Whifflingpin have been the only ones to contribute.

Wow, you gave me a hard time with "fangless"!
BTW, you're not supposed to start other people's lines for them. That can make it even harder and you're perhaps not free enough.

    Well then:

and furthermore that person sang less (!)
    terribly than the deceased,
which was why she was no end pleased.
Intent to kiss his gorgeous lips

    to merge herself with him...

and did not start next line... doing okay ?
not doing any more that 2 lines... tend to screw up !

Doing great! Now you've got the hang of it!

Um, could you just call me Barbara? Thank you. Uh-oh, it seems I'm complaining in every single post. I'll stop that now, promise. Whatever you do.

in the gloom of the room
he gave off a phosphorescent sheen
the gnome he was green as he always had been
which for gnomes was quite normal
    there was nothing amiss
but this gnome had an agenda
    his mission was thus
"Man, of all the animals, is probably the only one to regard himself as a great delicacy".
