    Colaborate On A Short Story

Lets write a short story. Just add a short thought to a previous thought. It might end up being lame but who knows. I'll start.

At 2 in the afternoon on monday Ziff pushed himself away from his desk where he worked on the 15th floor at his failing software company and...

With thoughts in his mind as heavy as the earth itself he contemplated the up and down buttons at the elevator door.

Ziff punched the up elevator button

He slowly entered the elevator. This little moving room made of polished brass, teakwood and marble would prove to be Ziff's undoing. He looked at his watch, 3:47am. he was stunned! Didn't he just leave his office at 2:00pm? He tapped his watch as the elevator's doors closed.

There was nothing wrong with his watch, he knew that. Ziff reached forward and gently pressed the elevator button which would take him to the top level of the tower... the words "Penthouse House" were inscribed in the mahoganey wood of the panel in a delicate script.

As he waited for the elevator to reach the top floor where he lived with his wife of three years, he thought, puzzeled, as to where the time had gone. This wasn't the first time this had happened to him. As his head hung down stairing at his watch, he happened to take notice of something on his shoes.

It wasn't so much on his shoes, but seemed to eminate from the top of them. Why were his shoes glowing with a pulsating blue light?...

The doors of the elevator opened to Ziffs penthouse where again his wife Carla was passed out on the new italian leather sofa. A bottle of Grey Goose vodka and her prescription of Zanex lay on the floor near her. He looked at his shoes, the pulsating light had quickened and brightened. Attempting to remove his shoes, he trips and falls on the floor. With his eyes at floor level he sees....

The shiny silver triangle he's dreamed about since he was a boy. The triangle would fit in the palm of his hand, if he decided to pick it up....

He laid there stairing at the familiar yet bizzare triangle, completely forgeting about his shoes and his unconscious wife. Before he could reach out for the triangle it began to spin and eminate a deep hum. Louder and louder, faster and faster it spun, it raised up off the floor and grew in size until it seemed that it would crush the entire room. In a flash of brilliant blue light it disappeared and with it, his wife Carla.

What was going on...? Ziff stared at the Italian leather sofa which was still indented with the shape of his wife's form. Sure he had decided that today was the day to change his life, but...

He just may be too late to stop what he had started. Two years earlier his software engineers discovered a way to fuse a simple yeast microbe into his computer code and were able to keep it alive with virtual food, fake sugar. Now it seems to have gotten out of his company's computer system. Now Carla was gone. In a flash she was gone.

Whether or not this was anything to do with the simple yeast microbe. That was anyone's guess. But... hang on a moment, a little reverse engineering might just clarify things. The encryption code...

Ziff looked into his wallet. The code was written on a cocktail napkin he kept in his wallet. He had a bit of a drinking problem. He quickly called his top engineer. "ZiffSoft, may I help you"
"yea, Carol, this is Ziff, is Tom still there"?
    "miff"?
    "no Carol, Ziff"
    "what"?
"for christ sake carol, is TOM there"?
"Oh, Tom, why didn't you say so. Who are you looking for Tom"?
"NO, THIS IS ZIFF, IS TOM THERE"?
"just a moment, I'll connect you".
