asalaamu alaikukum and hello to everyone!!
Has anyone ever had deep thoughts just purely about Allah, His divine and infinite existence ? I am not reffering to just having thoughts of just acknowledging his existence only but thoughts of how it came to be?? At the same time I am not questioning or doubting him or Islam but just trying to gain a deeper understanding to appreciate it all. However I was told not to think to deep into such things. Can anyone offer me an explanation as to why it is not permissible??

Abrahamic Monotheism in Islam, Christianity and Judaism - Yes (plus other spirituality of the world).

You mean How We Came to the Idea of Monotheism?

You should doubt because Quran says "accept nothing until you have verified it yourself...".

No you should not doubt, the verse Lote posted is not talking about doubting Islam and God.
Fatima do you know anything about soul? what is it? which form it has? color smell, nature? do you know anything about it? i am sure you will say no, the other question is: is there any possibility to know any thing about it? the answer will be again no.
If the soul that God created you cant know anything about it so how will be able to immagine Allah and ask about his nature and so questions, the other thing is that asking will lead you no where only will put your self in dooms, its not because you should not ask its because no one will give you the right answer because there is no possibility to know.
First i was asking my self same questions but i remained always in same place only waisting time and reaching nothing. To understand Allah's greatness i am not thinking any more trying to imagine the biggest shape i can build, all i do is to go out in clear night near my home and look as far as my eyes can go, stars sea mountains, i feel my self so little i feel greatness of the universe i try to imagine how big it is but i cant and i feel more little and appreciate more the universe and then tears go out alone when i think about Allah and already i have an idea about his greatness after i saw his creation, if the creature is that big and beauty so how will be the creator. Allah say about paradise that no one will be able to imagine it so how will be creator.
You can ask what ever you want but be sure always to have the right one to answer, you need more knowledge, Allah say in Quran : "Those truly fear Allah, among His Servants, who have knowledge: for Allah is Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving."

No you should not doubt, the verse Lote posted is not talking about doubting Islam and God.

Here is the verse in full:

Surah 17:36 You shall not accept any information, unless you verify it for yourself. I have given you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brain, and you are responsible for using them.

You shall not accept any information including mine and Shield & Sword's until you have verified it yourself.

Doubt is good. Doubts allows us not to take anything for granted. Doubts is a prelude to better understanding of the question we pose and the answers we seek...

Verse 17:36 is: [36] And pursue not that of which thou hast no knowledge; for every act of hearing, or of seeing, or of (feeling in) the heart will be enquired into (on the Day of Reckoning).
In arabic: وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ إِنَّ السَّمْعَ وَالْبَصَرَ وَالْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُولَئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْئُولًا

The verse is talking about saying something that you dont know, for example accusing someone in something you are not sure of, it will be like saying isaw while you didnt and i hear while you didnt and I THINK of something but you are not sure. Thats why Allah said hearing and seeing and your heart (feeling) all you will be asked about in day of judgment and how you used them.
There is nothing about doubting and all the translation Lote posted is wrong and is not takling about doubting or asking about every thing you hear, it order muslims not to say things they dont know.
Bad translation you have Lote, or lets say 100% wrong translation i think you must change it to the accepted translations.

I gave Fatma an advice so it will be so ... to say doubt what shield said, an advice cant be doubted. About doubting Allah's existence there is no one verse in Noble Quran or Sunna, Quran order us to think of creation and to think of how almighty Allah is and to get more closer to him, order us to learn more and more in that way we will be closer and with less doubt about Allah, order us also to go back to Quran and sunnah if we dont find answers.
Doubting is a feeling that come alone not a state that we create or to force our selves to have, and in order to make this feeling go away we must learn more and think deaply and to read the holy Quran and to seek right persons to answer our questions persons with more knoaledge so we can gain their knowledge and become more sure and more stable.

There is another verse in Noble Quran that say: "[6] O ye who believe! if a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly, and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done."
this verse teach us to ask proofs of what has been said and not to accept every thing, for example the translation that Lote posted we must check if its the right one or wrong and we discovered its wrong. I think you meant this one Lote but it doesnt talk about doubting, it talk about a way of handling things and a way that very important to not be deceived.

That to me means a collective 'we need' as opposed to a scattered and segregated 'we want'....by thine own hand shall we succeed :-)
