    Spadework (thesis)

I am hoping that some of you have read Spadework by Timothy Findley. I just finished reading it and am attempting to write an essay comparing the previously mentioned novel and, A Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

I know my essay will focus on the three prongs of: mendacity, homosexuality, and identity. My only problem is that I do not understand the correct way to create a thesis statement.

On my outline that was handed back to me my thesis was: "In the novel Spadework and the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, there are many troubled relationships between characters, the main causes of these conflicts are mendacity, homosexuality, and identity.

My teacher wrote:"Not a thesis" and gave me a failing grade.

I am frustrated and have decided to ask for help. I am not asking you to do my homework, but simply for some guidance to help me correct my problem.

Even if you have not read either works of literature and have some experience in writing, I would love to hear from you.

Perhaps a nudge in the right direction to where I might be able to grab some help?

Any good links would be appreciated!
