Thread: Name That Song

  1. #166
You're older than you look Scher!

Nat King Cole - Only a Paper Moon.

I was thinking of posting these lyrics in the "Song lyrics as poetry" thread, but I'll wait till someone gets it first.

    Iron-clad feather-feet pounding the dust,
    An October's day, towards evening,
Sweat embossed veins standing proud to the plough,
Salt on a deep chest seasoning.
Last of the line at an honest day's toil,
    Turning the deep sod under,
Flint at the fetlock, chasing the bone,
    Flies at the nostrils plunder.
The Suffolk, the Clydesdale, the Percheron vie
with the Shire on his feathers floating.
Hauling soft timber into the dusk
to bed on a warm straw coating.

No, I look younger than I am!

I had Ella in mind! I don't think anyone else can sing that song as good as she does.

    Heavy Horse - Jethro Tull

It started back in high school
So cool, king of the scene
You found that making people laugh
Was more than just a dream
The public took right to you
Like flies to a pile of ****
So funny and smart, so talented
    But success just couldn’t fit

Wasting your life no future bright
    Dancing on your grave

Efilnikufesin - Anthrax (googled needless to say)
and if some dim bulb should say
we were in love in some way
kick all his teeth in for me
and if you feel like keeping on kicking,
    feel free

Meaningless - The Magnetic Fields (no googling! )

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
    I was soaring ever higher
    But I flew too high

Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
    I can hear them say
    I have a plan: attack!

Carry on Wayward Son - KANSAS!!!!!!! (Thanks Jay)

    To keepin' silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
    Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut

So I went from day to day
Tho' my life was in a rut

Well if it's any consolation, I did manage to get the song title wrong.

Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel (g-g-googled)

    "Daddy?"
    "Yes, son?"
    "What does regret mean?"
"Well, son, a funny thing about regret is, it's better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done. And by the way: if you see your mom this weekend, would you be sure and tell her: SATAN, SATAN, SATAN!!!"

    - Post 5!

When he looked through the window
    For the thousandth time
He saw a black horse fighting for its life

    In a barbed wire fence
    Fatally tangled
    The more it struggled
    The more it was strangled

    Time sped up

The Other Window - Wire ... (googled!)

    Easy one:

Oh baby when you talk like that
You make a woman go mad
So be wise and keep on
Reading the signs of my body

    I'm on tonight
You know my hips don't lie
And I'm starting to feel it's right
    All the attraction, the tension
Don't you see baby, this is perfection
