    By the sword

    Hey guys, I'm doing this essay for a Biblical Ethics class. I am supposed to give the Ethical implications of a specific passage and I chose Matt 26:52, "Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword" More wellknown translations say "He who lives by the sword will die by the sword". What I was wondering is... are there anyother texts where violence is condemned with the same consequences? I know Exodus 20 gives you "Though shalt not kill" but I'm looking for other examples of consequences to give my topic stronger Biblical background. I already have PLENTY of secondary sources lined up, but I don't know the Bible well enough to pull these things out of it on command.

    I donīt know if you are still interested in this , but perhaps Isaiah
    can have something interesting for you?

    2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more

    That passage is not about consequences, but I think there might come more later on. Itīs mostly about what will happen to the not righteous, but I think there is some about violence as well.
    "Man was made for joy and woe;
    And when this we rightly know
    Through the world we safely go" Blake

    Thanx Isagel, I was begining to think that no one cared. Oh well, I found the info that I needed on my own and got a B+ on the paper. I should have done better, but I made to many assumptions without backing them up through primary sources.

    I'm in the humanities dept., which is really smart, openminded, considerate, and accepting, so its not a daily struggle, but I have some classes with the theological studies majors, and those classes are a pain, but even the teachers are pretty open minded. It's the students that bug me. I play Devil's advocate in those classes all the time. I have even used AP's arguements against them. The professors actually really appreaciate my/AP's arguements, because it takes the theo students out of their "take-it-for-granted" mindset and actually makes them think.
