I'm sorry Miss, I have not read "The Tale." I've read several of Conrad's other stories, but not this one. Perhaps if you tell us what you think so far about the theme and characters, and the officer, it would help to spark a discussion. I could maybe tell you if I think you're on the right track, based on my understanding of Conrad in general, but I might be of very little help to you in this instance. Sorry. But, yes, post your thoughts! I'm sure someone around here has read it, and would like to discuss it.

    WOW !!!!

some one answer my question !!!

    will let us sea

I think that Conrad's way is not to tell the story in way you can understand his point

    in that story

in the beginning there was a man & a woman

    Hmmmm

there were setting in caffee ...........

I think the man was trying to asking the woman to marry him

the atmosphere between them were fraught

the woman were nervous & she asked the man to tell her a story as he used to to before the war

    he beginning his story .....

there were an officer who looking in the sea to sea what he can sea

there were a submarine and an ship for neutral people and there were alot of fog

    in the end

we discover that the officer is the man who tell the story for the woman !!!

    just like that !!!

I understand the story yes,, but I can not tell what is the main theme ??? what is the characters look like !!!

I can not talk about it !!!!!!!!

hi my friend also i am reading english literature but as a foreign student i mean my general english is weak. josoph conrad is not an english author and till the age of 21 or more even he never talked in english. when i understand that it really made me shock specially the way that he writes made everything even worst. in heart of darkness or youth in one page i had more than 50 words that i didn`t know the meaning. the best way is to read simpler books and novels. so before reading joseph conrad`s go and improve your reading skills.
