Lady of Smilies
There are2 eids one after ramadan ( sort of like easter at the end of lent. And one now which is the tenth day of dul hijah the month when people go off on haj/pilgramige. Basically one of the things to do with it is tHat abraham was willing to sacrifice his son for God but then at the last minute God said he could sacrifice a sheep instead and so we all sacrifice sheep ( or cows/goats/camels depending on how rich you are). Its alot more complicated than that but That is the simplified version.

And there is Eid Mailad-un-Nabi as well which is on the birth date of Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H). Actually Eid is a word which means khushi or a "happy occasion". So we can use it in many ways but as far as Islam goes, I think that there are two Eids as Night has already mentioned.
I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves of gold there grew.

Eid El Fitr is for three days
And Eid El Adha is for four days.
maybe theyr differ from a country to another? I don`t really think so!?

Eid is Feast, Fiesta, Bairam, festivity
Those are the meaning I could find.
Just count it on Feast perfectly.

How do you mean "not a proper Eid" ?

Durzi???
Lebanon has alot of religious sects.
Just like Islam has Sunnas and Shi`ites, Christianity has Catholic, Orthodox....etc.
Durzi is a religious state.
They claim being like Muslims, though they have another holy book for them.
I also know that, when a man turns the age of 40 or 41, he ONLY THEN will know his real religion, with a condition: He doesn`t tell anyone about it.
I really feel it`s complicated and it`s not a complete sense to me; however, I do respect it greatly.
So yea, Druz celebrate this day. As my Durzi friend told me, "it`s the only feast we celebrate."

I think Night means it`s not a big feast that lasts for days, just El Fitr and El Adha.
If so, yes I second that. It`s a happy occasion we celebrate since it`s the birthday of our Prophet Mohammed, it`s only one day.

Thank you Poetess. Does it come at this time of year all the time or is it tied to a lunar calander as most of Islamic holidays seem to be?
Anyway, enjoy your holiday.

salam Alykum,dear sisters and brothers.
I've been away for quite along time, that's why I was a bit late to wish you a happy Eid.
How is it going up where you are?
it's freezing in here but the intimacy of the occasion makes everything wonderful
lots of love and respect for all who wished happy Eid and for all who celebrated it.
